The State Railway Technical Inspectorate is a direct administrative authority under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, which was established on 1 July 1999. The purpose of the establishment of the State Railway Technical Inspectorate is the implementation of the functions of the State administration in the supervision and control of the technical operation of the railway in order to ensure compliance with the requirements of the regulatory enactments regulating the referred to field. The operation of the Authority shall be determined on 04.01.2005. Cabinet Regulation No. 14 "By-laws of the State Railway Technical Inspectorate".

The State Railway Technical Inspectorate shall be organisationally, legally and in decision-making independent of the carriers, railway infrastructure managers, of the submission regarding the submitters of the matter within its competence and the public procurement performers of the railway.
